Wood Flooring Styles

When it comes to hardwood, there are so many styles, colors, and species to choose from that no matter what choice you make it can easily match the current style and décor of your home. Today popular hardwood style include rustic, weather worn, hand-scraped details as well as multi-width planks to add a more country home style feel.

Hardwood floors are timeless, and easy to maintain. If you are looking to make a lasting impression on your home then hardwood is the best option. Traditional hardwood species include types of wood like Oak, Maple, and Hickory but we also have more exotic wood flooring options like cork and bamboo. Types of hardwood can also be narrowed down by finished and unfinished planks, which can impact the final look of your flooring after it is installed.

Solid vs Engineered Hardwood

Solid hardwood is, just as its name describes, one solid piece of wood from top to bottom. It has a reputation for being simplistically beautiful and features unmatched characteristics no other flooring can replicate. Solid hardwood is durable, and can be refinished to extend its life cycle in your home. Engineered hardwood floors are made of multiple real wood veneers whose grains run in different directions in order to increase stability. This allows the floors to resist expanding and contracting during weather changes. Engineered hardwood planks can also be installed, but it depends on how thick the surface layer is.

Where Can Hardwood Be Installed?

Hardwood flooring is known to be durable, but it does have its limitations when it comes to where it can be installed. For the most part, solid hardwood can be installed in rooms like bedrooms, living rooms, and dining rooms. Engineered hardwood planks are better suited for areas that see a lot of activity like hallways, entryways, and children’s playrooms. You can even install engineered hardwood in your basement.
